DAPE

Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) is a special physical education class which assists particular students with improving their gross motor skills.

A student in a wheelchair is an example of s student who would benefit from DAPE. During adapted physical education class, we practice gross motor skills of running, skipping, hopping and galloping. We also practice skills such as balancing, throwing, and catching. Sometimes the rules of a game we play are changed (adapted) to the students' needs, for example playing basketball in a wheelchair. Two changes we make for this game are lowering the basket and allowing all players to carry the basketball in their lap while they move the wheelchair with their hands.
