English Language Development

The English Language Development (ELD) program at Southview Elementary teachers academic English through content. 

Multilingual (ML) students work in small groups and focus on building proficiency in reading, writing, listening and speaking. The program places emphasis on promoting the students’ home language as a way to build their academic English at school.

Currently, Southview’s ML students’ home languages include: Somali, Spanish, Vietnamese, Amharic, Arabic, English Creolized, French, Hindi, Korean, Nepali, Oromo- West Central, Russian, Mandarin, Hmong, Cantonese and Portuguese.
